Espinosa gets comfortable

Erik Espinosa may be regarded as a young buck in this industry, but if you've tasted any of his cigars in recent years, it's very clear he knows what he's doing. Espinosa is a Cuban native with a solid history in cigars. He's worked as a shop owner, factory manager, and not long ago opened up his own factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. He's been the mastermind behind some well-known brands such as Murcielago and 601 and his innovation shines through in Comfortably Numb Vol. 1.

This psychedelic inspired cigar comes in one perfected size to offer a great balance. It's dressed in an Ecuador Habano wrapper and brims with hand-selected long-fillers from Nicaragua. It offers a complex flavor profile with notes of coffee, cedar, earth, a bit of sweetness and some spice on the finish. Check out a box today and see what this guy is all about.

I've enjoyed a couple of the cigars out of the box and must say the flavor profile is delicious. Drew Estates has another winner here. Thank you CI for prompt service.

The cigar is a great smoke but 4 of them in a box of 20 were cracked upon arrival and some of the others have had a tendency to crack when cut. The ones that did not crack have been a pleasurable smoke.

Pink Floyd fans REJOICE! OH, and cigar lovers everywhere as well!?????? First off, yes, I am a devout fan of 'The Floyd' so, YES, the 'band' (hehe, get it?!) immediately grabbed my attention; but it's not a gimmick. Crafty, cool images and solid advertising on Espinosa's part for sure but that's where THAT ends...and the fun begins! Upon lighting you're greeted with an AMAZINGLY smooth, easy draw; which continues into and throughout the cigar. Next up is the delicious notes of nutty, somewhat woodsy (oak?). ESPECIALLY on the retrohale. Then I noticed a bit of earthiness with some char that lingered on the aftertaste. VERY enjoyable. Into the 2nd third now and I'm tasting/sensing a BIT of pepper: first the tingle on the tip of the tongue then, mildly, throughout my whole mouth pairing WITH nut not OVERPOWERING the aforementioned nutty and earthy notes from the FIRST 1/3. It's also seemed, not tip strengthen but to 'fill out' the overall flavors on my palate. Did I mention that it's burning PERFECTLY?! NO touch-ups or re-lights. Ok, now into the final third: the mild peppery taste is defintely becoming more prominent but, again, is in no eau TOO strong or overpowering Amy of the other notes AMD flavors. On the contrary it seems to positively enhance them. And true to CI's 'strength meter' this stick hasn't stayed from medium at all; it's just a really great MEDIUM flavor AND bodied and smoke. All in all I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND these to my fellow medium to medium-full bodied cigar enthusiasts. He'll, I just HIGHLY RECOMMEND them. PERIOD! So do yourself a favor and order at LEAST a FIVER of these and won't be disappointed! MOST DEFINTELY a TREAT!

Thomas S. regarding your review and comparison to the A.J Pinolero you are spot on. When I got my fist stick I kept trying to figure out what it was like. After that I ordered two boxes because it was that good. Anyway I also bought everything i could when I heard the Pinolero was going to be discontinued. I have one box left in my long term storage and that may make it till next year. Comfortably Numb is a great cigar and glad that i tried it.

Almost 3 yrs. ago I was fortunate to get 2 boxes of Pinolero by AJ Fernandez before they went out of stock at a really good price (thanks, CI). Since I know I can't get any more I've been smoking them sparingly and still have 15-20 left. They have aged just awesomely and I'm blown away every time I smoke one. What does this have to do with Comfortably Numb? I got a box 5 months ago and they are great. I just finished one minutes ago and noticed that these are eerily similar to Pinolero in appearance, flavor, and smoking performance. I will have to get another box so I can see if these age as well as Pinolero. Those who remember Pinolero, do not be fooled by Comfortably Numb's funky artwork. This is an awesome traditional smoke at a pretty awesome price.

Starts out a little bitter but settles into a decent medium bodied cigar. A little nutty and a little pepper. Pretty much one note throughout.

These cigars are made very well, easy draw, good ash and taste naturally good consistently throughout all phases of the cigar. High quality, unique packaging that is cool if you can let go of tradition.

Smoking the Comfortably Numb is excellent, would go great after Breakfast, or for dessert stick. Very tasty, lots of smoke output, flavors are spot on, ash held for almost 2 inches, and construction is flawless. I highly recommend them !

I do believe it’s working, good

Cigar: Comfortably Numb by Espinosa Vol. 1
Size: Toro (6.0"x52)
Burn time: 1 hour 40 minutes

I would wager a week’s pay that no one has purchased more Comfortably Numb by Espinosa Vol. 1 than this guy. As a YUUUGE Pink Floyd Fan, Comfortably Numb has long been my all-time favorite song since being introduced to it as a young guy by my sister Gayle in the 1980’s. So when this psychedelic banded cigar hit the store back in late January 2018 I immediately picked up a fiver of these. I was either going to love the cigar or have one put in a shadow box with the CD of Pink Floyd’s the wall, but one way or another I was going to enjoy seeing this cigar frequently. Little did I know that from the first time I fired up a Comfortably Numb Cigar, it would join my number one all-time favorite song as my all-time favorite medium bodied cigar! So why am I willing to wager a week’s pay on my purchase habit of this one…well, simply it is my any-day, any-time go-to cigar. Having an hour drive from home to work and back, I often pass that time with a cigar to make the commute on Route 78 more bearable. Well, Pink Floyd Radio on Pandora and a Comfortably Numb Volume 1 is almost a routine now on my commute. So, to say that I have purchased at least a box of these every month since February 2018 would be an understatement. At my last count, I had 38 empty boxes in my basement emblazed with the trippy Comfortably Numb by Espinosa Vol. 1 branding. But enough about my purchasing trends of this cigar…let’s discuss why I love this cigar the way I do.

As I have often said, we do shop with our eyes first, and the giant band on this cigar is hiding a beautiful and delicate Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The light tan smooth wrapper is a prelude to my enjoyment. It calms and puts me in the mood to fire one up every time I see it. I am greeted with a nice cedar aroma, and the pre-light draw offers pepper and cedar with a very smooth and even draw.

Giving it a guillotine cut and putting a few matches to the end of the cigar is where I say…”Hello, Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me…” That’s right, almost without fail, when I light this cigar I hear the iconic David Gilmore, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason crescendo of notes playing in my head.

So…”just the basic facts.” This solid medium cigar instantly delivers a smoky cedar and black pepper on the palate with a noticeable earthiness and sweetness on the smooth, short finish during the first third. During this time it can “ease my pain, and get me on my feet again.”

“I do believe it’s working, good”, as I get into the second third of this cigar. It is generally at this point I carefully peel off the oversized band as the cedar and spice increase. Almost on queue the tea and almond notes meld with a sweet bread-like taste as raisin and citrus combine with red pepper flake on the retro-hale.

To “keep you going through the show”, the final third of this cigar is when I find intensity of flavor building almost like the iconic Gilmore guitar solo. Now I have smoked cedar, peat, and cashew notes building over dried fruit and baking spice on the retro-hale. The clean short finish makes me want to “have that feeling once again” and immediately grab another one of these and cut and light, but I rarely do (although I have a few times.)

So, in closing, reviewing an all-time favorite cigar has actually proven more difficult, because I know why I like this cigar, but putting it into words, well, I think Roger said it best…”I can't explain you would not understand, This is not how I am, I have become Comfortably Numb.”
