Sign the charter

No matter how far we might stray from it, home will always be an important anchor for all of us. Foundation’s Charter Oak features tobaccos grown in the Connecticut River Valley of founder Nick Melillo’s home state. The name itself pays respect to a historically significant tree near which Native Americans would congregate and grow tobacco of their own.

But the respect doesn’t stop there as Melillo also honors his grandfather, a WWII vet who enjoyed Connecticut tobaccos with Charter Oak. Made of either a Connecticut Shade, or a Connecticut Broadleaf, wrapper and fillers from the Jalapa and Estelí regions of Nicaragua, the Charter Oak elicits a creamy flavor accented with chocolate, and hints of roasted nuts and pepper.

Good news! Charter Oak Connecticut has received an impressive 93-point rating, noting: "Rich woods and complex herbs set the tone for this attractive robusto. Each puff leaves impressions of oaky vanilla, spearmint and caraway seeds along with floral notes and a cashew nuttiness."

Charter Oak Connecticuts are great cigars. I get a slightly woody flavor note. Very smooth. Draw is always perfect. Smallest bit of pepper toward the end. Very good cigar. These are the best budget smoke, in my opinion.

Charter Oak Connecticuts are smooth and flavorful. They are my go-to and always keep some on-hand. This was my first time trying them in Petite Corona and and I found them just as delightful. I am not an expert of notes, but I pick up a hint of the woody note that I love so much. They are very smooth with just the tiniest bit of spice on the final third. Great cigar.

A very good Connecticut. A little peppery, but if smoked slowly it is an extremely tasty smoke. With the Nicaraguan fillers it is slightly stronger than a Dominican Connecticut, but again, a slow smoke makes it all the more enjoyable.

I had made a mistake when ordering. A pleasant one though. A little stronger than the Connecticut more of a medium. Great flavor and burn. I will be ordering them again and trying other Foundation Cigars.

These are a somewhat mild smoke (as expected for a Connecticut) that tend toward the smooth and creamy side, with mild notes of coffee and hint of spice. Having been through a couple boxes now, I can confirm that the construction, blending and draw show consistent quality across every Charter Oak I’ve smoked.

As an everyday cigar all of the Charter Oak products are great. This particular cigar smokes like a much more expensive cigar. Best. Aloe for the money I have ever found. Highly recommend.

Wow! My very favorite go-to. Flavorful, comfortable, smokes great and an excellent price for all that! The Charter Oak just became one of my favorite. This stick is delicious. You get very creamy smooth smoke with flavors of a wood, roasted nuts and hint of pepper that’s just right. There will definitely be a box of these sticks in my humidor at all times, and for the price you can’t beat it!.
