Big Papi by David Ortiz

Description

Hey slugger, take a swing at this

Any baseball fan knows the name David Ortiz – a Dominican Republic native that made a living 4-bagging balls out of the park in Boston and became well known as “Big Papi”. During his time in the major league, he played 20 seasons and was a 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion. Ortiz batted .286 with 541 career home runs during his time in the game. Heading into retirement, Ortiz decided to step up to the plate in the cigar industry. Teaming up with Tabacalera El Artista, creators of the 91-rated Exactus brand, they constructed a cigar to match Big Papi’s performance – one bound for the hall of fame. First crafted in 2013 for personal enjoyment and charity events, the Big Papi received great reviews and was taken commercial in 2016. Now for the good stuff.

Right off the bat, the presentation is pleasing – a sleek red and white box that matches the band, showcasing a silhouette of Ortiz pointing to the heavens, and a red fabric foot band to top it off. Pop the box open and there it is – an oily Ecuador Habano Claro Wrapper rolled to perfection over a Dominican Criollo ’98 binder and packed with Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. Pleasant notes of pepper and chestnut will first grace your palate, thanks to the Ecuador Habano wrapper, followed by a touch of cream, and brought all together with rich notes of earth and leather. This medium-bodied premium from David Ortiz isn’t your ordinary celebrity cigar, this thing is a home run.

GOING...GOING...GONE!!! "Big Papi" is finally headed to Cooperstown! Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz was just elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame his first time on the ballot!! Now you can get your hands on some of the last remaining Big Papi cigars available. Don't miss your chance to experience this grand slam piece of history!

It burned evenly and not too fast. The draw was perfect as well with just a small hole punch cutter. Smokes great and definitely will purchase again.

Strange, musty, not-so-pleasant pre-light aroma. But once lit, Big Papi is solid gold! Delightful aroma, great smoke output, and the flavor is on point - slightly earthy, nutty, subtle pepper and cream with some wood notes. I’d love to try it in a 52 ring gauge but 54 is a good size. Good medium stick with character- worth a try!

I like the Gary Sheffield so I tried this on whim. Descent medium to full body cigar. Like everyone else mines did not burn well. I would not recommend on an empty stomach. Worth the price if you get it on Make Me An Offer.

I had never heard of the cigar maker, so I was not expecting a lot out of this. To my surprise it was a very nice smoke. Only knock I have is that mines were a little dry, but still a nice smoke.

David needs to stick with baseball. Don't get me wrong it's big and taste good, but it didn't burn even or stay lite which made it hard to enjoy. In fact I ended up cutting the end off to try to get a good draw and that didn't work. Sorry David you picked a good line up on the choice of leaf, but need to go back to training camp on how to roll cigars. Maybe you'll hit out of the park at your next at bat.

Started out tight draw, but ended up rather nice. Almost packed too full. Good smoke and a long burn time. Flavor just like it says (I'm still learning my taste skills). But, the band has a sticker that if you don't have finger nails very hard to get off. Priced a little too high but you are paying for his name .

I would give this cigar a higher rating than 4 stars.....though not a 5 star treat. The burn was nearly perfect....nice even line. Flavor was Medium bodied with hints of roasted nuts, oak & a bit of spice. Smoke was adequate. Draw was nice. Nice appearance.....especially if you're a Red Sox fan!! This cigar sat in my humi for 9 months....begging to be toasted!! I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar and would definitely buy again!! Go Sox!!!

Tastes pretty good, wont stay lit, uneven burn and the 2 I've tried to smoke so far have both come unwrapped. Nice novelty for the Sox fan in me but not worth 11 bucks a stick.
