The wisest men among you may recall Black Market – a medium-bodied masterpiece from Alan Rubin that was introduced way back at the 2011 IPCPR tradeshow. Well, ever since then I’ve been hearing nothing but praise for this fine specimen, and those same lads have been begging and pleading for more. Ask and ye shall receive, gentlemen! Adding to his vast portfolio of 90+ rated beauties, Monsieur Rubin has come to...shall we say...turn up the volume on this revered blend. I present to you: Black Market Vandal.

The components may look familiar – 4-country blend of long-fillers, stimulating Sumatra binder, and hearty Nicaraguan wrapper leaf. This is all carried over from the original version. But here’s where things get interesting: included in that long-filler mix is a super-charged, super-secret, extra special tobacco leaf that ratchets up the intensity big time. Tremendous notes of spice and pepper explode on the palate, and culminate in a long, lingering finish. If you loved Black Market, then you’re gonna worship Black Market Vandal. And if you’ve never tried either... sorry to hear it. Here’s your chance to rectify that situation, pronto.

Alec Bradley always makes great cigars and the Black Market Vandal is no exception. These cigars burn well with a great draw. Ample smoke production. These sticks are full flavor. I have ordered quite a few of these cigars and will keep them as a mainstay in my humidors!

I bought a box of these on sale to compare to my two all time spicy favorites, Joya De Nicaragua Antano and the Punch Diablo. This is a good cigar that I enjoyed, but if you’re an experienced smoker who enjoys a very full cigar, and you’re looking for that ultimate sock to the face ultra peppery retrohale, this one is not going to satisfy you in that respect. What you do get is a cigar with starts with delicious notes of cedar, oak, some leather and earthiness that give way to black pepper and white pepper. You do get a peppery retrohale, but it’s not the intensity that I expected considering how this cigar is marketed. There was also a subtle taste of cocoa throughout the smoke. One thing I didn’t enjoy is the cigar seemed to lose its fullness towards the end (weird) and took on a bland (but not bitter) flavor that tasted slightly of glue. If not for that….I’d be giving it 4/5 stars. It could have also just been my palate that evening. It’s definitely a good cigar for the money. Even more so if you can get a box on sale. I would buy them again.

First let me say, I'm in love with everything i've had from Alec Bradley. This smoke is by far one of my favorite sticks from AB or anybody else. Always in my inventory, and I love them so much I have to force my self to smoke one because for me they are not a one off cigar, I want the time to sit an just take in the whole thing from its perfect light to eerily consistent burn, the amazing flavors from 1st third to the nub with my spikes in it to get it all. and the ease of draw coupled with a ton of exhaust. I normally retro most cigars about 6 to 8 times, I retro this whole cigar excluding the light.

I wanted to try this maduro Black Market smoke as I am a big fan of the Black Market Esteli. This smoke is OK, good draw, wrapper looks a bit rough, and the flavor is pure maduro. Personally I think the Esteli is a better value for money.
